Wats and Markets

The past two days we have visited some of Bangkok’s Wats (temples) and just outside Bangkok, Damneon Saduak Floating Market.

The Wats are amazing! Wat Arun is the tall temple you saw in some of the pics   ( pictured below). Wat Arun is called the Temple of Dawn because the first light of the morning reflects off the temple. It was built in the 17th Century and historians say, without Wat Arun, there would be no Bangkok. When visiting all temples you need to be covered up. Some require both shoulders and legs. Some just legs.

The Grand Palace was the next stop. It’s a complex of buildings built in 1782 for the Kings of Siam to reside. It is no longer used for that, but only for a tourist attraction. It was packed! It was so big once we explored a bit we were able to find some private areas.

The Damneon Saduak floating market was about 2 hours outside of Bangkok. On the crazy and bumpy ride over there we were wondering if we made the wrong decision….but once we arrived, we were happy we went! They take you on a long tail speed boat to the market, from there you get on a paddle boat and have them take you around the floating market. They sell souvenirs, food, hats and more. Unfortunately it has become a tourist trap. As you are floating by they grab your boat with sticks and pull you to their ‘store’. They are kinda relentless, but you just keep shaking your head no and they will stop. We went for the experience and pictures (Didnt buy anything). Our tour guide mentioned this is the world’s original floating market. It was very cool to see!
