Day Five – Driving the D952
Oof, last night was tough. Hoping to get our hours in line didn’t happen, as the party outside went on past 4 am. Woke up this morning, barely ready for the drive to Valbonne.
But first, before we leave Valensone, we have to try out this pizza vending machine that is only a few steps from our Airbnb and has been staring at us for days 🤣. Legit, you tap what kind of pizza you want, and it cooks it inside the machine, and like magic, a pizza pops out the bottom. So, pizza for breakfast it is!

As we begin our drive, with pizza in hand, we are in search of some coffee along our route. As we drive through the small town of Puimoisson, we notice a quaint place to get a quick espresso.
Well, it was quick, until katie saw L’Atelier Poterie. It quickly became an expensive coffee stop as we now have new bowls amd mugs for our kitchen. Pretty cool to buy from a local who makes all her ceramics in the same room she sells them in.

Expensive coffee, with a side of pottery, and we forgot to mention, Julie only takes cash. Of course, Puimoisson doesn’t have a bank, so we drive 15 minutes to Reiz (another fun town) to get some euros, and back to complete the purchase.
Finally, we are on the move to Verdon Gorge. Just past Moustiers, we arrive. We stop at the bridge for some drone shots and incredible views of the limestone cliffs and blue water!

Then quickly realize, we want to take the scenic drive at the top of the gorge. As one blogger wrote, this drive is not for the faint of heart!

Fun, adventurous, nerve-wracking drive that led us to a picturesque stop at Jean Louis for a beer and a mesmerizing view.

We wrap up this long journey through some windy roads and arrive at our Home Exchange in Valbonne. Our host is waiting to welcome us to our home for the week. Honestly, Home Exchange is such a genuine program that benefits people all over the world giving them an opportunity to travel and experience different cultures.

Not one to allow too much time to pass, we take the opportunity to head to the city center of Valbonne and enjoy a perfect evening in their historic, beautiful town.

The old town in Valbonne is based around the ‘Place des Arcades’ – arcades are the stone sheltered arched areas around the edge of the square that once provided shelter to merchants – which is a pretty square with cafes and a few shops. Pristine and spectacular inside these stone walls, as we enjoyed some delicious gnocchi and wine at Terra Rossa.

After a long journey to the South of France, we can’t wait to explore the French Riviera tomorrow morning!
