One thing we were excited about heading into the Douro Valley was the opportunity to sleep in a wine barrel!! Yes, you heard it, a wine barrel. Quinta da Pacheca is a quinta (winery) that began bottling wine under its own label nearly 300 years ago. This winery opened something extremely unique in June (2018), only a few weeks before we arrived. Rooms in the shape of a wine barrel! We weren’t sure what to expect when arriving, but we were very pleasantly surprised!
These beautifully constructed rooms were left with no details untouched. The top (where the cork goes) was a sunroof to stargaze at night. Our view was of the vineyards with ripening grapes. The bathroom had all the amenities you would expect and then some!
And the best part…..Aqua the winery dog hung out with us while we got ourselves acquainted. Seriously, the cherry on top!!
The Winery itself is a STUNNING property and offers wine tastings and great dining options!
